Call for Abstracts

You are invited to submit for presentation at the 2008 Wisconsin Tobacco Prevention and Control Conference, November 18 & 19, 2008, in Madison, Wisconsin!

We are looking for presentations and workshops that will provide current best practice and practical information on effective tobacco control strategies and developments. Anyone knowledgeable about any aspect of tobacco control – experts, newcomers, and everyone in between – is welcome to submit an abstract.

Conference Purpose and Objectives

The purpose of the Tobacco Prevention and Control Conference is to strengthen the unified commitment to the tobacco control movement by providing advocates with tools to improve the effectiveness of programs and policies.

Conference participants will:
• Learn about the research that supports tobacco control best practices
• Discover strategies to apply best practices
• Exchange valuable ideas and resources through networking

Conference Areas of Emphasis

All abstracts submitted for breakout sessions must:
• Directly relate to CDC Best Practices, evidence-based or promising practices.
• Provide practical application of strategies that are either evidence-based or promising.
• Incorporate tools that participants can use: organizational resources/contacts, skills/strategies/methods, and/or written resources

Presentation Formats

Abstracts are being accepted for 60 or 75 minute breakout sessions.
Please note that some abstracts may be combined due to limited number of breakout session timeslots. You will be notified of this upon acceptance of your abstract.

Abstract Submission Requirements

1. All abstracts must be submitted by Wednesday, May 14, 2008.

2. Applications that are received after the deadline will not be considered for review.

3. By submitting an abstract, you are making a commitment that upon acceptance you or a substitute will present at the conference.

4. Unless otherwise indicated, presenters are responsible for their own registration, transportation and other expenses required to attend the conference.

5. Abstracts must be submitted by email to Sarah Apple at sapple@uhs.wisc.edu. All abstracts will be reviewed and selected in June; notification of acceptance will follow soon after.

PROGRAM CONTENT
• Displays strategies linked to CDC Best Practices, evidence-based or promising practices (35 points)
• Incorporates tools that can be used in practical application (30 points)
• Degree to which learner objectives relate to the description of the session (15 points)

PROGRAM FORMAT and CREDENTIALS
• Presentation methods employ a variety of educational strategies (10 points)
• Abstract is complete and follows guidelines (5 points)
• Presenter has relevant life and/or professional experience (5 points)
