Smoke-free Workplaces and Public Places

Secondhand smoke contains over 4,000 chemicals, 69 of which are known to cause cancer.  There is no safe level of exposure. With facts like these, it's clear we must reduce exposure to this deadly substance in public places and workplaces.  No one should have to breathe in secondhand smoke just to earn a paycheck.

Increase the Price of Tobacco

Research shows that just a 10 percent increase in the price of a pack of cigarettes decreases smoking among adults by 4 percent, especially pregnant women, and among youth by at least 7 percent.  Wisconsin's cigarette tax is currently $1.77, but state taxpayers are covering $2.02 billion each year in health care costs directly caused by smoking.
